Stems glabrous or minutely glandular-puberulous upwardly, 30–55 cm tall, sparingly clothed with a few adpressed membranous sheaths having attenuate tips, and accompanied from the base by a single leaf (rarely 2) with a reddish petiole, 8–20 cm long, and a lanceolate to broadly elliptic, acute to acuminate blade, 10–15 cm long.
