Morphology General Habit
Erect or climbing shrubs; leaves opposite and entire, toothed or lobed. Heads discoid, in terminal or axillary cymose panicles or corymbs; involucre bell- or top-shaped; phyllaries in 2–5 series, membranous or dry and papery; receptacle conical or columnar, bearing folded scales.

Florets tubular, enlarged above, 5-toothed; anthers shortly sagittulate at the base; style-arms papillose at the top. Achenes flattened, dark, and with or without a pale border, usually ciliate; pappus of 2 subequal awns.
