Inflorescences pyramidally paniculate to corymbose; involucral bracts 7–16, slightly imbricate in 2–4 more or less unequal series, mostly spreading at maturity, some of them deciduous; receptacle flat to slightly convex, glabrous

Flowers 5–ca. 20 in a head, the corollas usually whitish to greenish-yellow, funnel- shaped from a broadly cylindrical basal tube, the lobes broadly triangular and bearing numerous clustered short-capitate glands.

Distribution

A Western Hemisphere genus of 114 species ranging from Florida, the West Indies, southwestern U. S. A. and Mexico through C. America and the Andes Region of S. America to Brazil and Argentina.
