Distribution
A North American genus of about 20 species, of which several are cultivated in other parts of the world. One (or possibly 2) species cultivated in Iraq.
Etymology
Gaillardia (named in honour of Antoine René Gaillard (fl. 1720–80), later styled Gaillard de Charentonneau, a magistrate, patron of botany and member of the Académie des Sciences. His property at Charentonneau, now located in a suburb of Paris near the Parc de Vincennes, once had a fine garden).
