Distribution

Recognition
Sacoila lanceolata is an extraordinarily variable species in pubescence, color, leaf form and size of spur; a number of segregates have been proposed, including Sacoila squamulosa. Nir (2000) (Symbolae Antillanae. DAG Media Publishing) recognizes S. squamulosa and distinguishes it from S. lanceolata by its scurfy pubescence and a spur about 2/3 the length of the ovary. Although local populations may be relatively uniform in such characteristics, these traits occur in all combinations so that variation is continuous across its entire distribution.
